Comments: This was one of the first of the "Horizon" series and was the first really big one. I stayed up late into the night listening to the sound track to "Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan" over and over. The first it the series was even more minimalistic, just a simple expanse of blue space. The whole series was based on a mental image that I had been fixed on during meditation. I wanted to avoid mental images that were rooted in any particular religion or meditative tradition yet I found it difficult to think of nothing. The sense of infinity, of immense vast space, seemed to come naturally to my minds eye. Then one night it seemed to come out quite naturally on the page.

This particular image has a little bit of a flaw (which I photoshopped out of the above picture) which always caused me some regret. It was the result of rollers on the underside of the parallel bar rubbing on the page as I moved it up and down. After that I started taping down mat board strips over the drawings to protect them as I worked.
