Title: Untitled Mandala (middle phase) Media: Colored pencil and oil pastel on white paper Size: 20" x 20" Framing: unframed Price or Current disposition: $700.00 Date: 1987, 88, 89 Comments: One of a number of mandalas worked and reworked over several years until it became a color field with just a ghost of temple grid showing through. I've never been quite sure what to call this one. I once exhibited it with the title "Unity" and used that name as a reference on inventory lists but I never thought it fit. This is actually an issue with most of my works to the present day. What I am after is nonverbal and words are all about categorizing something so you can think you know what something is and not have to delve deeper into the sense of being that a work of art is trying to reach. And while I'm on it, it is always something I'm trying to reach, not a sense of something I am trying to "express." Most of my mandalas, or at least the ones I think are important, are like paths made from walking. That is, they are effects of traveling a certain way but they are not the destination. |
