Comments: One of a number of mandalas worked and reworked over several years. (I once displayed this under the title "Core" but like most titles it seemed to specific and could not express the thing I was after). That is, the relationship between the atmospheric, almost liquid qualities of the oil pastels and the rigid, linear qualities of the vastupurusa grid came to express part of the metaphoric duality, not of yin and yang, male and female etc, but of archetypes and material manifestations, that I was preoccupied with at the time. The relationship between the perfect idea, which can exist nowhere but in the mind-spirit (chita) and the physical form, which can only imperfectly express, hold or manifest the archetypal motif, is more of an inner and outer duality, or like the relationship between a genetic code and the physical, material compost which the code uses to make a specific, individual, living thing.
