Title: Untitled mandala Media: Colored pencil and oil pastel on paper Size: 20" x 20" Framing: unframed Price or Current disposition: $700.00 Date: late 1980s Comments: I've never been quite sure what to call this one. Like others from the period it was worked and reworked over several years. The hand print seemed to me primordial, like a hand print on a cave wall. Perhaps on some level the mandalas had become my personal inner cave. The number twelve is also primordial, relating to divisions of time and space and how we locate ourselves within it. In a sense, all mandalas are about wholeness, and positioning ones self in the cosmos. The hand print is the trace, the echo one leaves behind on the cave wall affirming ones own exisitence. |
