Title: Untitled mandala Media: Colored pencil and oil pastel on black paper Size: 22" x 22" Framing: framed without mat Price or Current disposition: sold Date: late 1980s Comments: I think this one once had the working title of "cosmos." On their most basic level all mandalas are cosmic structures, or to be more precise, like temples they are a mesocosm that exists between the macrocosm (the larger universe) and the microcosm (the world of the individual human). A mesocosm is an intermediate realm that allows the mind, or spirit, to think and feel more cosmic, self transcending thoughts. This particular mandala was created at a calmer point in my life. It is more rounded, more three dimensional, more whole, and seemed to arrive at a finished state without the heavy reworking seen in some of the other mandalas. |
