Comments: A bit like a repeated mantra, this mandala is another variation on the basic theme of beginning with a rigid geometric structure based on the vastupurusa mandala and then fleshed out with more spontaneous, expressionistic line work and color. The title was an afterthought rather than a concept I was working towards directly. I was struck by how the finished work seemed to suggest some microscopic photographs of simple life forms - specifically, plankton. A simple geometric order and the right mix of ocean elements and sunlight and out comes the beginnings of the chain of life.
