Title: Lattice and spheres with star Media: Colored pencil on Arches Cover Black Size: 22" x 28" Framing: Unframed Price or Current disposition: $350 Date: 1993 Comments: This is one of two closely related images that both use the same color scheme, both use the star motif and both incorporate a pattern of squares taken from a book of Chinese lattice patterns. This one incorporated the lattice into the overall frames subdividing the view where as the other one broke the lattice up like fragments of a wire fence. I think with both there is a certain underlying symbolism in both where the star represents something eternal and optimistic where as the foreground elements represent the present. The present may be very orderly or fragmented and much of it (the spheres) are in constant motion but it is all temporal in contrast to the infinity represented by that star. |
