Title: Untitled Media: Acrylic on canvas stretched over fiber board Size: 40" x 73" (there about) Framing: Unframed Price or Current disposition: $1,200 Date: 1993 Comments: In the early 1990s I decided I wanted to work bigger and in a medium that wouldn't require the image be placed behind a reflective glass surface. At the same time I wanted to keep working on a rigid surface like a drafting table. My solution was to stretch fabric over fiber board that had been mounted to 2x2 wood frame. I then set the whole thing up on giant easel with an 8 foot parallel bar. The first three (of which this is either the first or second) are a little bit problematic in that the fabric I was using was light weight and the gesso I was using soaked through and permanently glued the fabric to the fiber board. I don't know if this is going to be an archival problem 50 or 100 years down the road or not. With the later works I used a heavy grade of canvas so there will not be a problem if at some later date the owners want them restretched or remounted without the fiber board. The first few of these painting were also much closer to what I had been doing on paper where as some of the later ones definitely look more "painterly." |
