Comments: This was perhaps one of the first times I took a perfectly good, "normal," picture from the Patterns in Space series and reworked it into something completely different. The title came to me at once, even as I worked on it, because the mode I had been working in had become so conventional to me by then that it was hard to give myself permission to make such a radical departure. The imagery is like an alien landscape, or more properly a dreamscape. Something that percolated up from my subconscious with its own force and presence.

Note: There is another work I did at the same time that has a similar mood. It is the same size but mostly in yellows and browns and in colored pencil without the layer of oil pastel. In some ways the imagery is richer than the above but it lacks contrast so it doesn't exhibit as well and thus has never been framed. I would be happy to show it on request.
